Outdoor Movies in the Parc de la Villette in Paris, FranceEvery year during the glorious Parisian summer, film fans converge on the Parc de la Villette for outdoor movie screenings of a wide variety of films.

This year’s theme, Ava, Rita, Gina… Les Stars et Leurs Pygmalions looks at Hollywood’s greatest stars, what it was that made them shine so brightly on the silver screen, and the directors who launched their stellar careers.

The Parc de la Villette was built as an urban renewal project for one of Paris’ more destitute areas, and the modern architecture of its buildings and layout make it an ideal place to relax and watch a couple of your favourite films. Open-Air Cinema in Bavaria, GermanyInternational Nature and Wildlife Film Festival
Freyung & Neuschönau . Bavarian Forest
11 – 14 September

Documentary films about animals and their habitats, wild landscapes and exotic regions – four days devoted to films about nature and wildlife in the midst of the largest extended forest area in Europe, the “Green Roof of Europe”. Have the pleasure of watching films in an open-air cinema in the Bavarian Forest- a vacation paradise! NaturVision, the international film festival celebrating nature and wildlife will be held in Freyung and Neuschönau annually. Whether you are a film producer, a cinema enthusiast or just someone who loves nature and animals – a comprehensive, entertaining discussion awaits anyone interested in the topics of nature and wildlife in films.

Even the places where the films will be shown are an experience with and in nature. Guests will be able to view the “great” films in the open-air cinema at the lake in Neuschönau -the screen is installed in the lake itself.

Competition

The focus of the festival is the documentary film competition without standing national and international productions. A unique opportunity to watch the latest films from all over the world in an open-air cinema.

A renowned jury of experts will give awards to the best films. The grand finale: awarding of the prizes during the Saturday night gala event.

Each year the film festival devotes itself to one specific topic. For 2003 we have chosen the subject “Wolf Traces”.

In its second year running NaturVision has guests from as far a field as Washington, New Zealand and Canada. This year’s theme is the Wolf. Last year three young wolves escaped from the National Park’s wolf habitat enclosure. Tragically, two were killed. This opens the discussions for the status of wolf conservation in the world.

The festival kicks off on the eve of the full moon when participants will gather in the Bavarian Forest National Park to listen to the call of the wolf.

Darwin Harbor, Australia: Outdoor Movies at the Deckchair Cinema

Outdoor Movies at the Deckchair Cinema in Darwin Harbor, AustraliaDeckchair Cinema, operated by the Darwin Film Society, is unique in many ways. It is fully independent and screens films that are often otherwise unavailable to local audiences.

The outdoor setting, on the edge of Darwin Harbour is absolutely stunning. The lights reflected from anchored and passing ships make for a serene periphery. The wonderful sunsets over the sea every evening are a stunning backdrop for people who come early with their picnic dinners.

Run by the community-based Darwin Film Society, the Deckchair Cinema runs seven nights a week during the dry season, screening a range of movies from family favourites to festivals and foreign films.

The kiosk sells wine – by the glass or bottle – beer, soft drinks and snacks as well as a range of Deckchair merchandise. The box office and kiosk open at 6.30pm every night allowing plenty of time to enjoy the atmosphere.

The ambiance is very laid back and relaxed. There are 250 deckchairs as well as about 100 straight-backed seats. They do supply some cushions, but recommend that people bring their own for extra comfort. During the months of operation, the Deckchair Cinema (April to November) skies are usually cloud-free and the stars make a great backdrop for the screen.

Deckchair Cinema is accessible via the walkway from the Esplanade. This path has recently been upgraded and is well lit before and after each screening. The cinema is also accessible from the end of Kitchener Drive, turn right into Jervois Road, in the Wharf Precinct. There is plenty of parking available.

The Deckchair Cinema is a majestic open air cinema situated on the Darwin Harbour. The dry season skies are star studded and patrons are cooled by the gentle sea breezes. The cinema operates seven nights a week from mid April to mid November, screening a diverse range of Australian, foreign, popular, classic and family friendly films. Come down early, bring a picnic (bring your own alcohol is not allowed) or grab a drink or snack from their fully licensed kiosk. The ambiance is extremely relaxed. Outdoor Movies in Mckinney, TexasMcKinney Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces celebrates another Texas fall season with fun activities, music and food at the 10th Annual Family Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 25. The event lasts from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Wilson Creek Softball Complex. Activities this year include an outdoor movie on an inflatable screen, pony rides, carnival games, music and popular fair food staples.

“McKinney outgrew our old Family Fall Festival, which was held annually for the past nine years, because of its popularity,” said Center Supervisor of the McKinney Community Center Trish Yanes. “This is a bigger and better event at a new location with more activities for McKinney families to enjoy.”

While listening to music played by Beatles tribute band Ticket 2 Ride, attendees can dine on all the staples of a fair, like hot dogs, turkey legs, soft pretzels, funnel cakes, sausage on a stick and more.

Kids can take pony rides, experience different animals in the petting zoo and play carnival games. Pat Lobb Toyota of McKinney sponsors the inflatable outdoor movie screen showing of The Spiderwick Chronicles at 7 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets for the movie.

In addition to activities for the youngest McKinney residents, the Family Fall Festival integrated attractions for older adolescents, like a mobile game theater, an outdoor Laser Tag station and a bungee bull. Admission for the whole family is $10. Visit www.mckinneytexas.org for more information.
